Being unable to host our regular drinkers, or any groups including members from more than one household, would in our opinion be too restrictive to make our business viable.
December is usually a time for friends and families to gather and celebrate but under the tier 2 restrictions none of this would be possible. Only people who live together would be able to visit The Fludyers and even they could not come just for a pint or glass of wine without having a substantial meal.
When our regular customers cannot come for their daily pint and it is not possible to even meet a friend for a coffee we do not feel that this is a regime under which we can successfully operate.
We worked extremely hard to ensure that The Fludyers was a covid safe environment but fully respect the restrictions in place and why they are necessary.
While the tiers will be reviewed fortnightly we feel it is unlikely that these restrictions will change before Christmas. With usual winter demand for the NHS always increasing over December and January and a likely spike in covid infections expected after the 5 day break to restrictions in private homes over Christmas we feel that there is every chance we could stay in tier 2 right through January.
As a result we have taken the difficult decision not to reopen the Fludyers during December or January.
We WILL be reopening, without question, and will continue to monitor the restrictions, infections and developments and will let you all know when we set a firm date for reopening.
From myself and the whole team we would like to wish you and your families a very happy and safe Christmas and look forward to welcoming you back to The Fludyers safely in 2021.
